Trauma is a huge term and a buzzword that is frequently used in culture today. Part of trauma includes an event or circumstance that happens, but another part of trauma is how we handle it. According to the DSM 5, trauma is actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence. While this is a technical definition, the impact of trauma can be far-reaching.
I have experience working with multiple areas of trauma, but primarily sexual and developmental trauma. Trauma work is not a quick fix. Rather it’s a process of discovering and reworking. I primarily utilize an EMDR framework and rely heavily on body-based and story-oriented interventions. Trauma is not just stored in memories in your brain, but also stored up in your body. By using these evidenced-based practices, I work with you as a whole person to create a different narrative. It sometimes feels as if trauma takes away all your choices. You will always have the memories of the trauma, but it will be in a way where you are in control of the narrative.

TLDR:
Trauma impacts the body, mind, and soul. As such, it’s important to work in a way to takes all these factors into account. I use an EMDR-framework in order to help process trauma.
